Fall is my favorite time of year. The trees turn into such magnificient rich colors of reds, oranges and yellows. It is cooler and to me there is a fresh crisp feel in the air. I just got back from my favorite scenic spot in Kentucky. My husband and I took our teenage son to Cumberland Falls. It's only a couple hours from us so it made for a nice weekend trip. My dad was born in that area and when I visit the Falls I feel his presence. I feel him when I'm walking along the trails and listening to the falls in the distance. When my dad died I felt like a huge piece of my heart died with him. It's when I'm outdoors that I swear I feel him with me. So when I am in a place where I know my dad has been, I think of him and try to appreciate the things I know he held dear to his heart. My dad loved nature. He fished, hunted and enjoyed the outdoors. When I was younger, I didn't get it. I didn't care about trees, lakes or anything outdoorsy. Now that I'm older, I take it all in. I'm so glad my husband and I can pass on our love of nature to our son. He really enjoyed the scenery and we all skipped rocks and had such a good time. It was a great bonding experience.
